Charpy impact test

A method for evaluating the impact value when striking the back of the notch section with a hammer while supporting both ends of the test specimen.

Impact testing is a test that measures the resistance of a material when subjected to a high-speed load. There are several types of impact tests, including the pendulum-type Izod impact test, Charpy impact test, tensile impact test, and drop-weight impact tests such as the DuPont impact test and dart impact test. The Izod and Charpy impact tests typically involve notching the test specimen. By notching, stress is concentrated, which means the results are influenced by the notch shape and the method of notch fabrication.

[Structural Analysis Example] Fracture Analysis of Charpy Test Using SAMP-1

The material is polycarbonate! It is important to set the fracture strain considering the strain rate dependence!

We would like to introduce a case study analyzing the fracture of the notched Charpy test (JIS K7111-1/1eA). A total of 10 tests were conducted, resulting in 9 hinge fractures, with a Charpy impact strength of 77 (kJ/m³). From the results of the impact strength and the behavior of the fractures, it can be said that in order to analyze the notched Charpy impact test, it is important to establish not only the "stress-strain" relationship considering strain rate dependence but also the fracture strain considering strain rate dependence. 【Case Overview】 ■ Material: Polycarbonate ■ Material Model: Resin Material Constitutive Law SAMP-1 ■ High-speed tensile tests were conducted to determine the following (1) and (2): ・(1) "Stress-Strain" relationship considering strain rate dependence ・(2) Fracture strain considering strain rate dependence *For more details, please refer to the related links or feel free to contact us.

Thermal shock test

Solving customer problems with advanced analysis and "insight"! Introduction to thermal shock testing.

One of the environmental reliability tests, the "thermal shock test," is designed to accelerate degradation caused by thermal stress. It repeatedly applies rapid temperature gradients of high and low temperatures to the test specimen to evaluate the reliability and durability of products and components. There are two types of thermal shock testing machines: air chamber type and liquid chamber type, depending on what is used to expose the test specimen to cold and heat. In the air chamber type, there are two subtypes: one where the basket holding the sample moves between cold and hot environments, and another where the sample basket is fixed and the temperature is switched between cold and hot using a damper. The choice of which type of equipment to select depends on whether the equipment complies with testing standards such as JIS, the degree of thermal shock desired, and the suitable equipment that meets the sample size, quantity, and weight requirements. **Features** - Test that accelerates degradation due to thermal stress - Evaluation of the reliability and durability of products and components - Selection of suitable equipment that meets the degree of thermal shock, sample size, quantity, and weight - Support for condition setting by experienced technicians even when test conditions are unclear *For more details, please download the PDF or feel free to contact us.*
